Free Pool Water Testing
Healthy pool water doesn’t happen by accident, and guessing your chemical levels can lead to costly problems down the track. That’s why Pump and Pool People offers free pool water testing for every customer. Simply bring a water sample into one of our stores, and our experienced team will run a full analysis on the spot.
With over 25 years of experience caring for Sydney pools, we know that accurate testing is the foundation of good pool health. Our free water-testing service takes the guesswork out of pool care, giving you clear, honest answers and a straightforward plan to balance your water and get it swim-ready.
What's Included in our in-store water testing
When you bring a sample in to our stores for pool water testing free of charge, our team checks all the key indicators of water health, including:
- Free chlorine and total chlorine
- pH levels
- Total alkalinity
- Calcium hardness
- Cyanuric acid (stabiliser)
- Salt levels
- Phosphates and total dissolved solids (TDS), where relevant
Once your results are in, our team talks you through what the numbers mean, what’s driving any imbalance, and exactly which products or adjustments will fix it.
If your pool needs more than a chemical top-up, such as a filter clean, equipment inspection, or a full service, we’ll let you know honestly.
Why You Should Test Your Pool Water
Your pool’s water chemistry affects everything from swimmer comfort and safety to the lifespan of your equipment. Water that’s out of balance can:
- Irritate eyes, skin, and swimwear
- Encourage algae growth, turning your pool green or cloudy
- Corrode metal fittings, heaters, and pump components
- Cause scaling and cloudiness from excess calcium
- Reduce the effectiveness of chlorine and sanitisers
Regular testing catches these issues early, before they turn into a green pool emergency or an expensive equipment repair. It also tells you a lot about how your equipment is performing.
Mobile Pool Water Testing
Can’t make it into a store? Our mobile pool water testing is available as part of our regular pool maintenance visits across Sydney. Our technicians bring the same level of expertise straight to your home, testing your water on-site, adjusting chemicals where needed, and checking your equipment while they’re there.
It’s a convenient option for busy households, strata properties, holiday rentals, and anyone who’d rather leave the testing and balancing to the professionals.

FAQs
Is pool water testing really free?
Yes. Our free pool water testing service is available to all customers, whether you’re a regular or visiting us for the first time. There’s no catch and no minimum purchase required.
How much water do I need to bring?
A sample of around 200–300ml is usually enough for a full analysis. A clean, sealed container is ideal, collected from around elbow depth, away from return jets or skimmer boxes.
How often should I get my water tested?
We recommend testing every one to two weeks during summer and swimming season, and roughly monthly over the cooler months, or any time your water looks off-colour or your chlorine won’t hold.
Can you test spa water too?
Yes, we can test water from both attached-to-pool spas and free-standing spas.
What if my results show a bigger problem?
We’ll walk you through what’s going on and recommend next steps. If it points to an equipment issue, we can arrange an inspection and repair service.
Do you offer testing at home?
Yes, our mobile pool water testing is available through our regular maintenance visits across Sydney, including South West Sydney, the Western Suburbs, and St George & Sutherland Shire.
